PRAGUE – A FULL MUG OF STORIES

Have you ever been to Prague? Whatever your answer, you certainly know that it is known for one of the best dramatic and film academies in the world, many types of beer, authentic buildings and rich culture. What you are reading now is the story of a European old lady drinking beer with foam in a cold mug. So put yourself in a glass of beer, gather your dear ones and join us in this beer adventure.

The legend on the name of the European Old Lady – Prague binds Libushe, a beautiful woman (both mentally and physically), a dyke who was believed to have prophetic powers. She and her husband, Prince Premisle, ruled the people from the Visegrad hill. One day, Liboushe stood on the hill looking into the future big city, and said: “I see a city whose glory will touch the stars.” For that purpose, they built a castle at the place where a man made a threshold for his house. On the threshold of Prague! – a woman with a lot of fervor told us, while we drank a mug of beer together, in a hidden and smoky pub in the grandeur of the great city that predicted Libushe.

And we connect every conversation with Libushe, as if she seems to be credited with everything that happens in Prague. Every place, every sip of beer brings a new story about the past of Prague. Prague is a full mug of stories. It is impossible for seven days to taste all kinds of beer, as it is not possible to absorb all the stories of Prague.

For that purpose, there are museums in Prague for everything. Here, try something that comes last to your mind … Yes, there is a museum for sure. From museums for artists (of course, I mean Kafka, a museum, his house, a square and a café called after him), through a museum of feelings, wax figures, to the museums of aviation and the technical museum and even more. You can miss any of these museums, but not the beer museum.

The oldest and most famous brewery “U Fleků” is located in the center of Prague on the defective Kremenec Street. The first registered owner in 1499 was called Kremenec and hence the name of the street. Later, in 1762 the brewery began to thrive in the ownership of Flekovi and then got its famous name “U Fleků”. After so many years of existence, today “U Fleků” counts only four employees in production that keep the authentic taste by doing it manually. Only in their pub museum you can find the famous dark beer and buy original bottles from their brewery.

Third January. -12 degrees. Snow to the knees, a fog descended on the streets of Prague. We open the gate of the brewery, the yellow light from the wood fire. Immediately is warmer. Entering “U Fleků” is like getting into another time. Medieval drawings on the walls, bulky chandeliers, long tables with a capacity of 1200 people. You sit somewhere between the people where you will find a place and the feeling of collective happiness fulfill you. Everyone laughs, it’s not possible to stay immune. You laugh and cheer with everyone, as you were old friends. Wailing with everyone on the table, learn how to cheers in as many languages as possible.Chez

Czech: „Na zdravi“

German: “Prost” or “Zum wohl”
Romanian: “Noroc”
Italian: “Salute”
Korean: “Gun bae”

New generations are sitting on hundred years old places, where instead of dust there were stories of many generations before. This place is called the Beer Museum because since its inception it has been producing beer and has never changed its purpose. And for other pubs you will think that you are in a beer museum, because often in cellars there are wooden barrels of fresh beer, there are many different types that can not be found elsewhere.

What fascinated me the most was the connection between Prague and Skopje. Skopska Pivara was founded by two Czechs, after the Czech recipe which has not been changed to this day. Transfer of raw materials and culture, Prague via Skopje. It’s nice to know that the best thing in a city, that is particularly proud of it is shared with your city.

A few tips to make a visit to Prague in its own right:

  1. Party. Parties  lasting up to early in the morning are only during weekends. Most of the clubs do not work after one o’clock in the morning. Therefore, tempest the arrival so that you can have fun. Proposal: “M1 Lounge Bar & Club” is a small place with lots of fun.
  2. The spirit of Prague: Then it’s best to make a list of all the places you want to visit. Let it be a little longer, because there is always the possibility of something to be fished. We were first on the list of Klimentinum’s old library, but since that day they started restoring it.
  3. It is not scary if you miss the tram. Tram, metro, train, bus, there are constantly, every two minutes and day and night lines. Even if you try, you can not be late. There are daily and three-day cards valid throughout the public transport. And beware, there is no need for each next carrier to knock you in the period until it’s valid, once it’s enough. Another idea: ride with the oldest tram in Prague from 1920 that still drives the route through the center of Prague.
  4. Always select the hidden cafes and bars. There is the real spirit of Prague. My suggestions: “Rybka Café – Café and bookshop” – much relaxed and “vintage” place. “Dobra Cajovna” – an authentic tea house, different from our Turkish tea houses in an old bazaar, with a tea menu that is great for Tolstoy’s “War and Peace”.
  5. Do not forget to eat: trdalnik, hermalin, sausages, cream soup, Czech dumplings.+
  6. Try as many beers as possible, but always moderately, there is no point if you do not know what you have tried.
  7. Bonus the place near Prague. If you want to make a short and productive excursion then my suggestion is Karlstein. It is the Castle of Carlo IV located on the top of a hill. Exceptional nature around a steep ascending hill. Of course, Karlovy Vary is a worthy place to visit, but Karlstein is closer, and yet a busy excursion is fulfilled. A day worth it to sacrifice outside of Prague.

One more thing, follow this manual very cunningly: before you go buy mugs for beer (for you and your friends), put yourself a beer, stop under the astrological clock exactly when the figures of the apostles should appear (whenever it is marked full hour) lift up the mug and make cheers for all great moments!

Do not be afraid of the spillover, Wizz Air does not make a problem for the mug, and you do not go back to Skopje without a mug for your loved ones. And when you return home you will still have something from Prague in your refrigerator. SKOPSKO! Well, did not the Czech recipe be made. 😀

Cheers for new full mugs stories!
