AERIAL SLING- COMBINATION OF DANCE, ACROBATICS AND SPORT

Active Life

Aerial Sling is new, attractive and less known discipline. It’s dance, acrobatics and sport and if you want to practice it all you need to have are desire and a specialized fabric. Exercises are performed in the air using the fabric which is the main prop. So probably the name Aerial (air) Sling (turning) comes from there. Personally, I much more like the symbolic meaning of the name Aerial-imaginary, imagined spinning.

To practice Aerial Sling, previous physical readiness is not needed, because the goal, among other things, is through continuous and gradual training in combination with the proper consumption of food and liquids to come to a great form.

The story of this type of discipline begins in France in the years of eighties of the past century. The circus is saturated with standard performances and is thirsty for new ones. At that moment, a woman – an innovator with one fabric in her hand – appears ready to turn her idea into reality. That is how everything begins.

At first with the discipline Aerial Silk, which is the predecessor of Aerial Sling and Aerial Yoga, which today we are lucky to have in Macedonia. You may wonder what the differences between those three related disciplines are. In fact, the differences are very small.

Aerial Silk uses a fabric, where only one end of it is attached to the hook, while in Aerial Sling and Aerial Yoga, the fabric is attached with its both ends of one or two hooks. The difference between Aerial Sling and Aerial Yoga is that Aerial Sling requires more energy and contains more acrobatics, while Yoga concentrates more on the balance between mind and body.

Sling as a hybrid discipline of sport and art brings many physical, psychological and emotional advantages. In addition to strengthening all muscles, it also improves flexibility, the connection between the mind and the body, improves the sense of orientation and balance and relieves you from fear. It demands calmness, patience, precision and creativity. It improves self-awareness and everyday life, and thus increases the hormone of happiness, endorphins which helps you improving your lifestyle. This discipline is characterized by elegance, energy and physical readiness and perfectly fits to the description of a modern woman.

It’s a very cool and seductive idea to make some strange movements with the body, separated from the ground, only relying on your own muscles and the canvas. But continuity and perseverance are what it is needed to be able to practice the exercises, which at first seem impossible and difficult.

Of course, the key factor here is the diverse nutrition and constant hydration of the body that should be in line with the exercises. Two hours before the training is not recommended to eat, but 250 ml of water, tea or other liquid will maintain the vitality and flexibility of the body. Moderation is the Key to Success!

Perhaps you did not know so far, but these two cool disciplines that conquered the world, can be also practiced in our country with the only certified instructor, Maja Krstevska. Therefore, if you want to be unique, fit and practice healthy lifestyle, you can find the Aerial Sling and Aerial Yoga team at the Pole People Skopje studio.
