Plastic items are resistant to water, weather conditions, corrosion, to many chemicals, and sometimes they endure very high temperatures as well. Plastic recycling is a process of reprocessing of plastic waste into new useful products. It started 50 years ago as a result of people’s awareness that plastic waste represents a danger for the environment because it is not biodegradable. As this issue is being more frequently actualized throughout the world, so are people discovering new ways to engage themselves and make sure that this kind of material does not end up as a plastic waste in the environment.

What can we do about it?

Plastic bottles are part of almost every aspect of our living, from beverages bottles to washing detergents, and their enormous use in everyday life results in waste of millions of plastic bottles. This waste is normally selected for recycling, but here are some interesting ideas for reuse of the plastic bottles as an excellent way for us to minimize our impact on the environment.

  1. Make your garden beautiful in a different and interesting way

Commonly, flowerpots are made of plastic bottles. But these are not just any flowerpots, but look like genuine decorations that resemble a piece of art. Use your creativity and include unusual style in your garden, yard, or simply on your terrace, and let your flowerpots from plastic bottles differ from others. All you need are plastic bottles, colors and your imagination.

  1. Entertainment for your pets

The pets in your home are in a constant search of new ways to entertain themselves while you enjoy watching them. Empty plastic bottles can serve as pet toys with different purposes, such as playing, eating and simultaneously acquiring intelligence.

One of the dogs’ favorite games is Spinning the Bottle. Make a simple wooden frame with tin stick in the middle. Make two tiny parallel holes on the plastic bottle(s) where you will insert the tiny stick and put it back in the frame. Make sure that you will place dogs’ food inside the bottle, and watch your pet having fun while it hits the bottles with its paws expecting the food briquettes to come out as the bottle spins round and round.

Your cat can also chase the plastic bottle trying to pour out the cat food briquettes. Also, you can make a food plate from two connected plastic bottles and make it a place where your cat will eat.

Very easily you can use plastic bottles to set up an eating spot for the birds in your garden.

  1. Garden brooms

Another way to reuse plastic bottles is to make a garden broom. You need two or more plastic bottles. Remove the bottom, and cut the bottle from down to the middle in vertical fringes. Place the bottles one into another. Garden brooms with plastic fringes are used for sweeping same as conventional brooms. The plastic bottle neck is used to fix and solidify the broom handle.

  1. Coin box

Together with your child make a Piggy bank for saving money from ordinary plastic bottle. This is an excellent way for your children to have fun, and also to learn about saving as an important aspect of life. Let your kid draw or paint the bottle, or even to glue ears to the piggy.

  1. Pen / Pencil holder

After you have a cold drink in your office, do not throw the bottle. Reuse the plastic bottle(s) to make a holder for your pens and pencils, and other office materials. Impress your co-workers and children with your ideas for simple contributions to a sustainable way of life.

  1. Turn the plastic bottles into waste bin

Waste bin made out of waste – there is no greatest symbolic gesture for eco way of life than making waste bin from plastic bottles. Make a perfect outdoor waste bin. Just do not throw other plastic materials in it, but create some nice, useful product out of it.

And remember: The positive contribution to the planet Earth is priceless. It only requires from all of us an awareness, care and willing to protect the environment.
