ECO-ACTION FOR COLLECTING WASTE ALONG THE VARDAR

Environment

Under the motto “Are You Recycling!?” еmployees and management of Pivara Skopje, together with the Embassy of the Netherlands in Macedonia and the company Pakomak, cleared over 3 km of the Vardar Quay in Skopje. Within the action, the entire dry waste has been collected that will further be properly selected and recycled, thereby ensuring its appropriate treatment.

“We realize that this is perhaps a symbolic contribution, but we hope that this eco-action will send a message to the whole community how we should all behave towards the environment, especially towards water resources. As one of the founders of Pakomak, at Pivara Skopje we are fully committed and work towards accomplishment of our own but also of the national targets for packaging waste management. With this eco-action we are contributing towards achieving those goals. I hope that our example today will encourage other people and companies in the country to take specific actions that will preserve the environment clean and healthy”, said the General Manager of Pivara Skopje Jovan Radosavljevic.

Following the global leadership of the Coca-Cola HBC Group in the field of sustainable development and Heineken’s sustainability practices, Pivara Skopje carries out continuous activities directed towards packaging waste management, as well as decreasing energy consumption and water saving.

Emphasizing such activities as an example of individual and corporate social responsibility, the Ambassador of the Netherlands in the country Wouter Plomp stated: “The beautiful and diverse nature is one of Macedonia’s biggest assets. Being a nature lover and a mountaineer, I can’t help but notice that pollution is a big problem that endangers these natural beauties. Joint approach by the state institutions, the businesses and the citizens is the only way to solve this issue, and that’s why my team and I are here today: to give our small contribution and inspire bigger changes”.

The company Pakomak also contributed to the success of the action by supplying the necessary logistical support for proper collection and transportation of waste, as well as its selection and recycling.

“The number of employees who joined this action as volunteers surpassed our expectations and proved that with will, right approach and team work we can implement joint actions that leave positive impact in the community. Pakomak is strongly committed to minimizing any undesired effects form packaging waste on the environment and in that regard we want to demonstrate that the values we share are not declarative but essential”, said Filip Ivanovski, CEO of the company Pakomak, whose core business is the management of packaging waste.

Minimizing the impact on the environment is a strategic goal of Pivara Skopje. For its sustainability efforts so far and the evident results achieved in environmental protection, Pivara Skopje, along with other members of the Coca-Cola HBC Group, was ranked first for the third consecutive year in the beverages industries worldwide, according to the prestigious global ranking made by the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices.
