PAKOMAK BROADENS THE NETWORK OF CITIES THAT SELECT GLASS

The Hotel/Restaurant/Café sector (HORECA) in Strumica, Prilep and Kicevo will select glass packaging and green igloo-like containers in which the citizens can throw glass are already placed in these cities. The company Pakomak constantly broadens the scope of cities in which glass packaging is separated from other waste. The catering sector already selects glass in 12 cities: in Skopje, Kumanovo, Veles, Stip, Ohrid, Struga, Vevcani, Kavadarci, Bitola, Tetovo, Gevgelija and in the Mavrovo region. Since 2014 Pakomak invested 2.5 million denars in the purchase of 120-liter cans in which caterers select glass. The purpose of the investments, according to Igor Makaloski from Pakomak, is using glass as a raw material because it can be recycled unlimited number of times, as well as achieving the national targets.
– “The Law on Waste Management and Waste Packaging stipulates that 40% of the declared glass packaging will be selected by 2020. Approximately 10,000 tons are reported in Macedonia every year, which means that the national targets for 2020 are set at 4,000 tons of glass packaging,” said Makaloski. He explains that Pakomak expects 2.700 tons of glass to be selected this year, and estimates for next year, backed by the company’s continued investment processes in appropriate equipment and infrastructure, range between 3,600 and 3,800 tons of glass to be selected in 2019.
– “We are committed to achieving the national targets for 2020, but also to creating an adequate capacity of the network through continuous investments and expansion so that these quantities would grow more and more,” Makaloski says.
Pakomak also purchased 390 igloo-like containers this year, which are placed on public surfaces, and the investment is 7.4 million denars. In Skopje, there are 175 containers like this, 60 in Bitola, 45 in Kavadarci, Prilep and Ohrid each, 40 in Strumica, 35 in Struga, Stip and Veles each, 30 in Kumanovo, 20 in Gevgelija, Ilinden, Kicevo and Negotino 10 each, 8 in Resen, Sveti Nikole, Dojran, Krusevo and Valandovo 5 each and 2 in Aracinovo, Studenichani and Zelenikovo each.
