“UP THE LADDER OF SUCCESS” WITH DZIAN EMIN: THE WORK IS CREATED UNTIL THE LAST NOTE IS PLAYED
Their personal qualities have brought them great professional success. Today they are members of management teams and lead the most successful companies in the country. These are the stories of our successful people that we will publish in the column “On the ladder of success”. Faculteti.mk and “Pivara Skopje” Educational Center show you the way to the stars through the “Success Skills” training.
All periods of life have an impact on the building and composition of a person. The character cannot be changed. But if one is open to the world and new things, they can have a fulfilling life, says Dzian Emin, our renowned songwriter, keyboardist, arranger, conductor, comprehensive musician, artist. Many who know him say there is no instrument that Dzian cannot master. However, he has no particular affinity for a particular instrument – he loves all that he uses to create his music. This is his story on the ladder of success.
– When I think of the music of my childhood, I remember the music that my father played and sang, which was very colorful, ranging from folk music from our area to some standards of what is today called world music, and most of all South American music. Of course, there is the inevitable part about music for weddings, circumcision and similar celebrations. In addition, my friends from the neighborhood played guitar and listened to music from Pink Floyd, Kraftwerk, Led Zeppelin … – Emin begins his story.
His father is the only one in his family who has been professionally engaged in music. Today, his brother plays horn in the Philharmonic. Emin did not forget his childhood when playing soccer marbles, sometimes a rubber band with the sisters who helped him raise the harmonica, which was bigger than him. He learned the first notes with his father, who was always ready to buy even the most expensive instruments.
Even as a high school student he became part of the Philharmonic
He was an excellent student and the best student in his generation. He acquired the basics of music education at the Ilija Nikolovski-Loui High School of Music and continued at the Faculty of Music in Skopje. After the entrance exam he was first on the list with the most points. But he continued to work, even as a high school student playing nightclubs, weddings, various bands … From the fourth year he started working in Philharmonic. He says his actual education then began practically. Fortunately, the professor trusted him and entrusted him with the position of first horn in the orchestra.
– Like all other hired musicians, by way of audition I got the first horn in Philharmonic. It’s great to be part of a big orchestra and to have music written by some of the greatest giants in history. I have managed to spend a great deal of world music literature and it is a tremendous treasure that helps me a lot in the process of composing and orchestrating it, ”explains Emin.
It helped him to grow up musically and realize the beauty of the orchestra while he was studying. He graduated horn in 1997.
What part of this period in life has most influenced its formation in what it is today? Emin says every moment of the past leaves its mark.
– I assume that all periods of life have an impact on building and assembling a person. The character cannot be changed, but if one is open to the world and new things, I think they can have a fulfilling life. In my case, all periods of my life that I was aware of were related to music and had a huge impact on my lifestyle, thinking and acting in general – he says.
I made good friends through music gatherings
Emin has been part of many bands over the past three decades. He says he is happy to have had the opportunity to work with many musicians from our country.
– I have learned a lot from all people and I am very glad that I have acquired good friends in all those musical associations. It is normal that the projects in which I had a responsibility to be a composer or to participate in building musical aesthetics are a little more in tune with those where I was just a performer of already made music – he explains.
Although the horn is his “by education” instrument, there is hardly any instrument on which he cannot express himself musically. However, he cannot single out one favorite.
– The horns, other instruments I play and other tools I use in the process of making music are a means of expression. I have no special affinity for a particular instrument. Maybe I’m a little more adept at keyboards, but I love all the instruments that exist and use them in my music – says Emin.
In recent years there has been no music project in which he has been involved, to go unnoticed. Especially the big open-air Philharmonic performances, the arrangements for Derek May … Emin says all of these projects that have the prefix “big” are serious because of the multifaceted workload.
– The most important is the idea of what and how to do. Then, the process of preparing the notebook material is complicated and requires a serious energy focus. Of course, all stages undergo many changes and it is generally difficult to define exactly what we will achieve in the end. That is the most beautiful thing for me because the process lasts until the last note is played – he says.
Wishes and ideas are many …
A few years ago, he enrolled in the second faculty of the Faculty of Music – at the section of conducting in the class of Borjan Canev. Many believe that it is the conductor who should bring the orchestra to a level of living organism that is breathing and functioning perfectly. Emin says:
– I definitely enjoy conducting. I try to be clear in my ideas and musical affinities. However, it is the musicians who play and create the sound and magic. The conductor may help or may be completely unnecessary, even destructive as an occurrence. It took a lot of love, desire, knowledge of psychology and philosophy … and of course a lot of knowledge for the conductor to gain authority and confidence in the musicians. When all the cubes are merged, the magic appears on its own and takes the whole situation into its own hands. From that moment on enjoyment comes – explains the man who breathes music.
Asked what he considers to be his greatest success in the profession so far, Emin modestly answers:
– Despite the fact that I had the opportunity to conduct several world orchestras on three continents and have been part of many different music projects with musicians from home and abroad, I still cannot say that I have achieved any great success because I have a sense of beginner all the time. in each new project. From this angle, I would say that my greatest success is that I look forward to every new project. There are many wishes and ideas … I would be happy if I could do this in a variety of forms all over the world, as long as I am healthy and alive. That’s my wish.
