GENERALKA WEEKEND 2022 STARTS, PIVARCI, THE PARTNERS AND THE CITY OF SKOPJE CLEANED VODNO
The employees and the members of the management team of Pivara Skopje, together with the volunteers from the City of Skopje, Pakomak, the company Man And Mountain, the Mayor of the City of Skopje, Danela Arsovska, and the members of several diplomatic missions in the country, collected the dry waste from the tracks and areas for rest and recreation on the mountain Vodno. With this officially started the spring part of the biggest eco-action in the country so far “Generalka Weekend 2022”, which from today, until May 8, is being implemented in 26 municipalities across the country.
The action for cleaning the Vodno was synchronized; the volunteers of Pivara Skopje and members of several diplomatic missions started collecting waste from the top of the mountain, while the city administration started from the top down, as well as from middle Vodno, jointly collecting the waste from the the numerous treks, rally points and parking lots.
“We are happy and proud to be able to participate in ‘Generalka Weekend’, as a company but also as individual ambassadors of sustainable development. With this environmental action, we recognize our responsibility to contribute and we have a desire to lead and exceed the national targets for packaging waste management.“ said the General Manager of Pivara Skopje, Goran Sladic.
“Our company efforts are primarily dedicated to building our country as a place without waste and reaching net zero carbon emission. This initiative, ‘Generalka weekend’, helps us to make a difference in both areas: Collect waste at scale by continuing with realization of the platform ‘World Without Waste’ and Reduce Net carbon emission by planting new trees. It is a double benefit for the environment, for all community, and for all of us who are part of it,“ Sladic emphasized, at the start of the action on Vodno.
The Mayor of Skopje also expressed satisfaction with the action, emphasizing that the involvement of the city administration in its implementation shows that the protection of the environment is high on the agenda of sustainable development of the City of Skopje.
„Today’s action is really special, because because it involves 100 volunteers from the private sector and the organizations that are actively involved in this project, but also 100 volunteers from the City of Skopje, high schools in the City of Skopje, from the utility company and volunteers who come from the municipalities of Gazi Baba and Kisela Voda who through their public companies contribute to clean Vodno in the interest of all citizens,“ said the Mayor of Skopje, Danela Arsovska.
The company Pakomak, which provides the necessary logistical support for waste collection, transport, selection and recycling certainly has significant contribution to the success of this, as well as all other eco-actions that take place within the “Generalka Weekend 2022”.
„This is one of the ways to raise the public awareness for protection of the environment that surrounds us, by showing personal example. If everyone would make sure that the packaging waste ends up in the appropriate bin, we would have a much cleaner and better environment for us, but also for the future generations“, said Iko Bardarovski, Business Development and Communication Manager at Pakomak.
The eco action Generalka Weekend 2022 is organized by Man and Mountain and it is planned to be repeated every year until 2031, in order to clean the whole country of waste and to implement a sustainable system for waste selection and management.
„The real heroes of Generalka Weekend are the 26 municipalities, schools, kindergartens, NGOs, retirees, activists and employees of utilities and municipalities. All united behind one idea – To collect the waste from the past and to recycle it in a green future!”, says Gordana Sofija, representative of the organization Man And Mountain – organizers of “Generalka Weekend”.
The big eco-action “Generalka Weekend 2022” is supported by the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Economy. After these spring cleaning eco-actions, afforestation actions are planned to be carried out during the fall as part of “Generalka Weekend 2022”, where one tree will be planted for every 10 kilograms of collected waste.
