EXEMPLARY JOINT ACTION: WASTE FROM THE SHORE AND THE WATERS OF LAKE MATKA COLLECTED

Following the success of last year’s cleaning of the Vardar quay and completely aware about the importance of a clean and healthy environment, employees and members of the managerial team of Pivara Skopje organized a new volunteer eco-action, but this time to clean the shore and the waters of Lake Matka. The British Ambassador and his team, as well as the divers from the speleological society Vrelo, who were responsible for the removal of the inorganic waste from the waters of the lake joined the new action under the motto “Are you Recycling?” in addition to last year’s partners – the company Pakomak and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Macedonia.
“I am happy that today, together with my colleagues, employees in Pivara Skopje and our friends and partners, we have once again demonstrated that when it comes to the environment, we are ready, besides as organizations and companies, to act as individuals by investing part of our work time and energy in order to preserve the nature clean and healthy. At the same time, we contribute to the achievement of the national objectives and targets in waste packaging management, which is important for the whole country,” said the General Manager of Pivara Skopje Jovan Radosavljevic.
“Macedonia is a country with a beautiful nature that we all have to respect and protect. I hope that such actions will serve as an example and encouragement for all citizens and visitors to this scenic landscape that the responsibility for preserving this beauty lies with each of us,” said British Ambassador Charles Garrett.
For the Dutch ambassador, who participates in the eco-actions organized by Pivara Skopje for the second time, this is the best way to raise public awareness about the pollution problem. “People often want to debate global issues without asking if they personally contribute to them. Looking at the pollution problem in this country or any other country, my appeal to all citizens is that it is about time for each of us, while thinking globally, to act locally,” said the Dutch ambassador Wouter Plomp.
The entire logistical support for collecting, transporting, selecting and recycling collected waste within this eco-action was provided by the company Pakomak, whose core business is the management of packaging waste. “As a company that is strongly committed to minimizing any adverse effects of packaging waste on the environment, we are pleased with these actions because they demonstrate that we are not alone in the implementation of our mission. Encouraged by the contribution of such actions, we believe that the defined objectives and targets regarding packaging waste management by 2020 are not only feasible, but we can even exceed them together,” says Pakomak Customer Care Manager Iko Brdaroski.
Following the global leadership of the Coca-Cola HBC Group in the field of sustainable development, as well as sustainability practices of Heineken, Pivara Skopje conducts continuous activities aimed at proper management of packaging waste, as well as reducing energy and water consumption. Pivara Skopje, together with the other members of the Coca-Cola HBC Group, has been declared global sustainability leader for the fourth consecutive year for its efforts in this domain, as well as the achieved results in the field of environment protection, according to the global ranking of “Dow Jones Sustainability Indices”.
