WATER BIO-TREATMENT PLANT PUT IN OPERATION

Pivara Skopje AD’s Great New Investment

The new plant is the single of this type in the country and the region. Approximately 3 million EUR of company’s own funds were invested in its construction and technology. The plant promotes protection of the ecosystem, while at the same time enables effective water and energy savings.

The start of operation for this innovative water bio-treatment plant was symbolically announced by Pivara Skopje AD’s General Manager, Constantinos Spanudis, the Deputy Minister of Environment and Spatial Planning, Stevo Temelkovski, and the Mayor of Skopje, Koce Trajanovski, before an audience comprised of media, business and community representatives.

“I take great pleasure and pride in the fact that at times of economic challenges our company has decided to implement this project with own funds. This investment demonstrates our commitment to social responsibility and continuous investment in own development, while making due consideration of long-term and sustainable development in the broader community where we belong“, said in his address, Pivara Skopje AD’s General Manager, Constantinos Spanudis.

The plant’s unique feature is identified in the manner of its operation, as well as the effects it produces. It will treat water from the manufacturing process with biological means only, which represents a high-tech innovation applied for the first time by the in-country industry. Another significant feature is the fact that this state-of-the-art technology enables treatment of water from the manufacturing process, which can later be re-used as industrial water, while gas emissions released during water treatment will be used for energy generation.

Congratulating the employees at Pivara Skopje AD for the successful realization of this investment, the Mayor of Skopje, Koce Trajanovski, said: “By implementing this innovative project, Pivara Skopje AD has again set an example for a socially responsible company, which – in addition to investing in its development –invests also in general welfare and takes due care of the community’s interests“.

“Water and energy are issues that gain increasing importance. Following the global trends, clear is that individual countries should pay particularly interest in the protection and cost-effective utilization of these resources. By means of this project, Pivara Skopje AD demonstrated its committed to the motto ‘think globally, act locally’“, said Deputy Minister of Environment and Spatial Planning, Stevo Temelkovski.

The overall project was implemented in record time, i.e., in less than 6 months, where the company’s cooperation with competent institutions was of particular importance, in particular the cooperation with the Municipality “Gazi Baba“ and the Ministry of Environment and Spatial Planning.
