SKOPSKO, PIVARCI AND THE MUNICIPALITIES IN A JOINT ACTION CLEANED 7 LOCATIONS AROUND LAKE OHRID

“The Skopsko brand always supports what is essentially meaningful and authentic for our community. As one of the oldest Macedonian brands, we feel that it is our responsibility to get involved and contribute with a particular focus on protecting the environment and we are actively engaged in preserving our natural and cultural treasures, such as Lake Ohrid. This is also a call to action for everyone to understand the role and responsibility they have in protecting these national landmarks which make us very proud. This action is just an introduction to the long-term environmental protection platform that will soon be presented to the public by Skopsko.” – said Marta Zavkova, senior brand manager for Skopsko at Pivara Skopje.

The Municipality of Ohrid supported this action, as many before, and promised to be involved in such environmental actions in the future as well, and to support all projects related to the protection of natural wealth. “What we have inherited as the most precious gift from nature which the world values as a world heritage, we are fully obliged to protect and preserve it for future generations” – said the mayor of Ohrid municipality Kiril Petsakov.

The mayor of Struga, Ramis Merko, called on the citizens of Struga together to protect and ensure a clean and healthy living environment. “I am pleased that today I am a part of such environmental action and cooperation. Our city is known for its beautiful nature, clean air and environment, but this does not mean that we should not continue to invest and strive for a better future,” said Merko.

“Debrca, although a rural municipality, represents a significant link with equal responsibility in the protection of our pearl, Lake Ohrid. The largest watershed of Lake Ohrid, the watershed of the Sateska River begins and ends in Debrca, therefore it is no coincidence that it is part of the natural and cultural heritage in the region protected by UNESCO,” says Zoran Nogacheski, mayor of the Debrca municipality. “I hope that such eco-activities which greatly contribute to the protection of the environment, will remain a good practice in the future.”

Underwater, the lake was cleaned in several locations: the Bay of Bones, Gradishte and the mouth of the Sateska river, with a special emphasis on the places where the Ohrid trout spawns. Nikola Pascali from the diving club Akvatek from Ohrid said – “We welcome the organization of as many such actions as possible, because we believe that they help to raise the awareness and sense of responsibility of each individual to be included, not only for cleaning but also for the protection and proper disposal of the waste. Lake Ohrid is everyone’s pride in this country and we must preserve and protect it.”

Support in the implementation of this action was provided by Man&Mountain, who emphasize the urgency of action and the importance of these actions for cleaning the environment, but also for strengthening the awareness of the responsibility of each individual.
